Adult Diploma Completion Program

Greenbush Virtual Academy

Adult Diploma Completion (ADC) program

The Adult Diploma Completion (ADC) program of the Greenbush Virtual Academy is a part of the Alternative Learning Services department at Greenbush. We began our Diploma Completion program in 1995 and changed to a virtual format in the 2015-16 school year. Our program offers a personalized learning experience with a customizable blend of online classes and online support from Greenbush educators.  Our students range from 20 years of age to students in their 80s. It is never too late to return to complete your high school diploma!

How does the ADC program differ from a GED?

Greenbush Virtual Academy ADC program partners with school districts across Kansas to provide the opportunity for adult students to earn a high school diploma from a local school district. Students are required to follow the partner school district graduation requirements and upon completion of those requirements will earn a traditional high school diploma.

The Kansas Board of Regents issues the Kansas State High School Diploma (GED) through the successful completion of the GED exam. The GED exam is a four-subject high school equivalency test that measures skills required by high schools.  There are GED preparation programs across the state of Kansas but the Greenbush Virtual Academy ACD program does not offer GED preparation courses.

So which is the right program for me – Adult Diploma Completion or GED?

This is a question you will need to answer for yourself.  Depending on what credits you earned when you were last in high school, the ADC program may take quite some time to meet the graduation requirements to earn your high school diploma.  You will want to gather as much information as possible on the GED program and the ADC program and how your particular situation is impacted by both programs.  We would be happy to visit with you to help determine the impacts of the ADC program as well as direct you to further information regarding the GED program in Kansas.

Who is the ADC program designed for?

The ADC program is designed for any adult who has not earned their high school diploma and is 20 years or older. The adult learner must be a legal resident of the state of Kansas but there are no other residency requirements. And that is it!  If you have a desire to earn your high school diploma and you meet the two requirements – age and residency- we would be happy to visit with you to see what it would take for you to complete your graduation requirements.

How does the program work?

ADC students can access their courses 24/7 and are not tied to a traditional school day – students can move at their own pace. The courses are provided through online curriculum and include courses in the four core areas – English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies – as well as many engaging electives to choose from. Our Greenbush educators are available for online support as well as on-site support in specific areas in eastern Kansas.

How do you get started?

The first step is up to you. We have developed an online form for a prospective student to submit which will start the process. After completing the form, a Greenbush Virtual Academy staff member will be in contact to visit about your situation and what the next steps are to begin your journey to earn your diploma. You will need to contact your previous high school(s) to attain your high school transcript(s) showing courses you have already earned. You will receive credit for those courses toward your graduation requirements. You will only have to complete the remaining graduation requirements after a transcript evaluation.
